Gaudi sets a brushed, softly rounded outer edge against a flatter, more restrained centre, so its character comes from the surface itself rather than from any added detail. The matte finish holds light low and even across the band, keeping the proportions clearly in view. Discreet but far from plain, it takes its name from the architect whose buildings drew their power from structure rather than ornament; the same idea worked at a far smaller scale.
